this i kinda on topic cause it is todo with the rings

in the tokra cago ship there are 2 controle pannels
the ont on the dash board(or whatever it is) that is used to comunicat with

and there is the 6 butoned console behind the piolet andto the left which seems to control the rings

i seriowusly dont think that there are enough controlls on the ship where are all the others hiding

Its easy to see how he might say "I think i did that" Like, in my house there are several lights that have on off switches in more than one location. Perhaps the on/off switch for the rings they were going to use was on another panel, and he just thought "Hey, I pressed this button and they came down, there must be another here"
