Except for the uniform info, the basic premise was right anyway as most of the US Naval tradition and much of the Commonwealth and Ex-Commonwealth naval tradition are all derived from the British... Including the ranks.
Also, much of the Commonwealth and ex-Commonwealth Army ranks come from the British and the American Army/Marine Rankings evolved from similar traditions (only more bastardized than the Naval versions.)
