Re: Gating to other galaxies

I realize that the 8th chevron doesn't necessarily grant access to other galaxies, but if these are the only examples of extra-galactic addresses (Abados, and Asgard), then why use the 8th chevron?
Note: This is a rabbit trail from one of Jonas's previous threads. And, I hold to the idea (from that thread) that the 8th chevron simply increases the possible addresses (like IP addresses in Peer-to-peer networking).
First Question: In the feature film they went to the Kalium Galaxy, thats where Abydos was in the film, and it only required 7 cheverons, heh. Other then that in the Series no, I don't think they have been to another galaxy through the gate other then the Asgard homeworld.
Second Question: hehe, same as I said in first question. Plus, maybe the Asgard galaxy is even FARTHER then they went in the motion pic, heh. I dunno...
In the movie Abydos is on the other side of the known universe in the Kalium galaxy needing only 7 cheverons.
In the series Abydos is the closest planet to earth in the gate network in our own galaxy still only requring 7 cheverons
It is widely accepted though that the Gate Network system was invented for the Series. In fact a whole lot was invented for the series, i.e. Goa'uld etc... In the movie it was understood there was only TWO gates, on Earth and Abydos because there was only ONE alien who took possesion of a human body, Ra.
In fact, in the movie when Daniel was explaining how it all went down he said this alien searched the universe for a very very long time, till he found Earth. So I suspect in a ship, and not via Stargates. Because in the movie there were only 2, no ancients, no gate network, nuffing.
