Speaking of which, why did Apophis even come back to Earth? All he wanted was hosts to why go to a long forgotten, and disbelieveing planet that not under their (the Goa'uld's) rule?

Ra was the one who ruled earth really...

i wonder why apophis DID want to go earth anyways though, to scout it out? to see what all the uproar was about with these earth people destroying Ra maybe?

Its that mentality, also, if they killed Ra, it would be in his best interest to see exactly who killed the most powerful of the system lords.

I've always thought of him as a hands-on God; chasing fenri around and so forth. His contingent that day did look armed to kill, could it have been a revenge attack (against killing Ra or something) and taking the host was an unexpected 'prize'?

The question is, would Apophis want to avenge the death of Ra?

We've heard in passing that they were enemies in Stargate, and in Egyptian mythology Re and Apophis did battle at night, as Re rode on his night time Barque. When he defeats Apophis he can then rise another day (hence day break)

Maybe Apophis heard of the death of Ra and got rumours where they came from, and so he dicided to return to Earth. Bit then again, wouldn't he send a Jaffa or two through first to make sure the Stargate was unburied and that it was safe for him to travel? (We know in 'The Nox' that he knew the world was safe for him to travel to)

Anyone have any ideas?

But he did send that round ball thing first (his version of a MALP I guess). And yes I know he and Ra were enemies, but any "lesser race" (eg Earth) who can knock off someone as powerful as Ra deserves a preemptive strike, no?!?!?

I don't think so because he went to Abydos (and probably other planets) to get more hosts afterwards. He wouldn't have just stopped and decided to visit earth (over a year after Ra's death) then go back and start getting more hosts. Besides, he didn't do anything bar get the woman and leave, he didn't do much revenging. Also, I don't think he would be number one on the list to revenge Ra. Other Goa'uld would have gone to earth first.

I assumed all of the goa'uld had been to earth at one time or another. Where else did they get their hosts? Apophis's said he was a scribe in AE before Apophis took him (Serpent's Song). And if Apophis was never on earth how did the mythology about him get there?

If Amohtet had taken the USAF airman as a host, all the knowledge she possessed of Earth would have fallen to Apophis' hands. Knowledge of the humans who had tha audacity and power to kill one of his own kind, a god.

That's as good a reason as any to make a raid upon Earth to snag a potential host or two.

I think that the theory that because Earth may have become a threat again (or at least just opened the Stargate, it would be pretty surprising for the Goa'uld, last time they saw us we weren't to advanced) and decided to take a look (I had forgotten about the portable camera thing they sent through). Perhaps it would ahve a bit more sense if they had treid to get all the information out of the Airmen before offering her to Amonet (and then her death)

I do agree that they killed her because she wasn't anything to them once she was no longer wanted as a host, although it perhaps have made more sense if they had then taken her away to get out any information they could on Earth from her before killing her though..
