Well, you answered your own question.. see, they think theyre big and smart so to show us all how big and smart they are, they make the thing which can bend iris's... apparantly... I hear it impresses the women too!

On a slightly more serious note, they have phasing technology of some sort which allows them to walki through solid objects, clearly it ustilises particles of forces which operate on the microscopic level... ie they can take effect in the few nanometers between the iris and the "event horizon".

What I want to know is why didn't they just activate one of the bombs with the first shipment? Ok the Goa'uld would detect the energy signature and not lower the shields. Then why didn't they send the bomb to Earth, without activating it, tell hammond how to activate it then disconnect, push over the Tollana Stargate and fill the ring with matter. Meanwhile, Hammond activates the bomb, dials Tollana shoves it through and disconnects. The wormhole would default to the next avalaible Stargate in the Tollana system, the Ha'tak in orbit.

To make the wormhole defauly, you have to have a huge burst of energy to make it jump. if they just sent it back to the blocked stargate, the bomb would simply detonate once it passed through the Tollana barrier, and destroy Tollana. The Tollans would have to set a bomb off on the Stargate or something while the other bomb was in transit to make it jump, and it wouldn't neccisarily go to the Ha'tak, even if it was the closest.. just one of the gates in the general vicinity. And the goa'uld would see the Tollans sending the bomb, then the SGC sending instructions for when to blast the Stargate to make it jump, and the Tollans sending a reply saying when they're gonna blast it. They were monitering the whole planet. they would be extra special about the Stargate, they're not dumb.

No. To make the wormhole jump you have to do that or make the default gate unavaliable.(48 Hours). And it would go to the Ha'tak because of what happened in Solitudes. Closest gate in the system, then closest gates after that. They wouldnt have to. Simply by burying the gate, every following wormhole would jump to the next avaliable gate in the system and therfore no need to reply to anything. And even if they needed to they would use SG-1's radios.

u have to have the gate open to send signals through, and they would have to use the malp, not Sg-1's radios, that wouldn't work. And what happened in Solitudes is the gate got shot tons of times, and that's y it shorted. cause of the energy build up, not just because of a blocked gate!

Why didn't the Tolan just give the bombs to Tanith, then detonate them? The wormhole doesn't jump when the default gate is burried, it finds the next target but doesn't jump, the gate only 'jumps' with huge bursts of energy i.e. the black hole episode.

The gate "jumped" in three instances: "Solitudes"; "Touchstone"; and "Matter of Time". In all three instances (and this was explained explicitly in "Solitudes") the reason it jumped was because a surge of energy through the gate overloaded the destination gate and caused the wormhole to disconnect with the destination gate. The residual surge of energy then energizes and opens the next Stargate closest to the first destination gate.

If you have two gates in a system, either the alpha gate will activate, or if the alpha gate is put out of action, the beta gate will then work.
If the gate on the planet were to be buried... the gate on the ship would automatically become the main gate as it is in the system, and all people trying to dial up the gate on the planet will be routed through to the ship in orbit.

So it doesn't jump it just goes to the next target. Gee, if that's not circular...
