when were the 'constellations' named? you dont think that the Ancients had built the Stargate looooooong before the concept of naming the stars was even considered? I still think that the ancient earth cultures names the constellations based upon the glyphs on the stargate, not the other way around, and hence the glyphs are a universal coordination system, not earth based

Right JK, the ancient cultures of earth probibly got the constilation idea form the "gods" of the time. Which are also on the gate.

The people who made the gate would logically have progressed from cave dwelling etc, up through nuclear energy, on to Stargates etc. At the earlier stages of their development, they would likely have also hit on the idea of studying the stars, and grouping them (every other culture on Earth has), and so the constellations would have been known to them before they built the gate. Using the apparent directions of them from a stationary point relative to Sol as a method of determining destination makes the most sense, since they are *almost* fixed points of reference. Now, using these glyphs is fine on Earth, but on any other star, how then do you know what glyphs will take you somewhere?

No, i mean that the gate was here before the ancient people of earth could even use a spear... The Ancients, maybe they governed or ruled the planet for a while, then left, the Goa'uld took over for a few millenia, humans revolt, normal history progressed yadda yadda...

So the idea of these 'shapes' (ie: the gylphs) on this wonderous silver ring from whence the ancients came through from teh heaven, would have been in the culture of humans for a loooong time before they even started to associate them the stars... and did so to honour the long-gone alien creatures..

At any rate, the contemporary constellations, as we know them today, were only 'discovered' in the last few millenia, and the gate was here long before that.

It just doesn't make any sense for it to be any other way. There is no way, if the gates are all the same save the point of origin, that the glyhps are based on earth's pov of the stars.

UNLESS!!!!!!!!! The Ancients ORIGINATED on earth.... which opens up another can of worms (hey, i'm happy to dig up that thread too )
