Post and another....

Jack looked up from the folder in his hands. It was only the second page, and already he was lost. ?You know what I think?? he asked.
?What is that, O?Neill?? Teal?c asked, taking Jack?s bait.
?Why these scientists put all the techno-babble right at the front of the briefing. I mean, the only person on the planet who can understand it is Carter, and I?m sure she can live with it being at the back.?
He glanced across the table, to where Major Samantha Carter was seated, who merely grinned back at him. A sudden flurry of movement to the left of the briefing room snapped Jack and Sam out of their seats, and into a state of standing to attention.
?At ease? came the General?s steady, deep voice as he entered the room. Jack and Sam took back their seats, the Colonel obviously agitated that he?d lost his comfortable position. Hammond took his seat at the head at the table, and nodded a greeting at the assembled team. ?Let?s get down to business. In front of you is a folder containing information on the planet designated P3X-274, or Aruna as the locals call it. SG-7 explored this planet two months ago, and met with the indigenous population. Upon a tour of the local town SG-7 were taken to a naquada mine, which the Arunens were mining for building materials and fuel.? Hammond stopped briefly to scan the faces of SG-1. O?Neill?s eyes had glazed over, recognition of the fact that he found most things with ?naquada? in the title boring. Carter was sitting forward in her seat, already wondering what she could use the naquada for. As for Daniel Jackson and Teal?c, well, Jackson was sitting back in his chair, a mug of coffee in his hands, with the folder half open in front of him, and Teal?c was simply staring at Hammond, taking in all the information given to him.
Hammond decided he?d continue. ?As you all will know by now, several hours ago Lieutenant Holdis of SG-7 arrived through the Stargate. After intensive medical treatment, and the all clear from Doctor Frasier, he managed to inform us of what happened. Yesterday morning, two Goa?uld mother ships arrived in the planet?s orbit. A wing of death gliders were sent down, and after a brief fire attack on a settlement near to the main village, a group of Jaffa descended on the village. Colonel Shepard ordered the team not to attack the Jaffa, and to dress as normal villagers, while Lieutenant Holdis was sent on a run to get back to the Stargate and inform us what?s going on.?
Hammond paused again, this time to look at O?Neill, who was now more alert, and taking in more information. ?We?re not sure which Goa?uld has arrived on Aruna, but he, or she, has put the local Arunens and the remainder of SG-7 to work in the mines. You?re mission will be to put an end to the Goa?uld mining operation, and rescue the Arunens and SG-7.?
A brief silence in the room, as each team member absorbed what was required of them. ?Any questions?? the General ventured.
There were none.
?Okay, this will be a covert operation, Colonel, I?ll let you plan your insertion method. Night on Aruna will begin in approximately two hours, so I?ll expect you all geared up and ready to go by then.?
O?Neill nodded, and, at the same time as Carter, gave the usual ?yes, sir!? to Hammond.

The control room was now bustling with activity. In one corner of the room a couple of technicians were running some sort of diagnosis on the computer systems. Jack stood impatiently. His finger repeatedly clicking his P90?s safety catch on and off. At last Carter and Daniel arrived.
?Okay, dial us up? Jack ordered Walter, who was at the Stargate?s makeshift ?dial home device?.
The Sergeant nodded, and before long the Stargate?s inner wheel began to rotate. ?Chevron One, locked? Walter reported, as the first coordinate for the Aruna Stargate locked into place.
Before long all seven symbols were locked in place. And the MALP was already in transit to Aruna. Several seconds later, the telemetry was received.
Jack looked up at the screen. There were several Jaffa, and what seemed to be a working DHD. The Jaffa obviously hadn?t encountered a MALP before, as a few of the more curious ones were examining it, while the others aimed their staff weapons at the mechanical beast. After two pans of the camera, O?Neill grabbed the microphone. ?Okay Teal?c? he began, ?we?ve got several Jaffa on guard duty. Go ahead.?

In the gate room, Teal?c was standing with only a couple of marines for company. He pulled a small metallic ball from his pocket, and then walked towards the Stargate. Up onto the ramp, before stopping directly beside the event horizon.
A small smile crossed his face, before he tossed the Goa?uld shock grenade through the blue, shimmering portal.

Up in the gate room the team stared at the screens intently. The Jaffa moved around the MALP, curious about the design. Whoever these Jaffa served, they obviously hadn?t encountered this particular Goa?uld before, as these Jaffa had never seen a MALP before.
But, they soon spotted something they had seen before, as the shock grenade hurtled through the gate, and rolled into the MALP camera?s field of view. The Jaffa attempted to scatter, but before they could get out of range, the grenade went off.
All those in the control room saw was a bright white flash, which, when it faded, revealed several unconscious bodies of the Jaffa lying on the ground.
Once the MALP?s camera had been panned round the immediate vicinity of the Stargate, and an infrared check had been run, O?Neill nodded.
?Okay, Teal?c and I will take point, Carter and Daniel, you give us five count on follow us in? he briefed as they made their way into the gate room.
Jack took a few steps up to the base of the ramp. He braced himself, checked his weapon was ready, the nodded to Teal?c? within seconds they had both ran the last few steps to the event horizon and executed a barrel roll each, so that any remaining Jaffa would not know what hit them?
