Thats a really good question, I don't have an answer for that. So I guess I'll have to wait till someone else does, and pick it apart.

it's cos the watery special effect is alot better... and builds a lot of mystery of what's on the otherside for the viewer (usually when we don't see the MALP footage).

Same reason you can look into a microwave oven and see the food cooking inside, without having your own eyes cooked. Visible light is a very small portion of the EM spectrum, and radio waves exist at a much longer wavelength and energy than visible light.

Not everything in the EM spectrum can get through an object. Radio waves can go through the walls of your house, but visible light does not. Both are forms of electromagnetic energy, but they have differing forms of opaqucity.

Humm
so
your trying to tell me that the stargate will let all of the em specturm from(looked this up) 100000m long radio waves to 0.000000000010m long gama rays BUT not ling in the middle i think your wrong as for the microwave exaple well microwave doors are solid the gate is not

no, seriously, 'COS'

lol

another reason would be just.

as for microwave ovens, they tend to have a metal grill consisting of a plate with lots of little holes in it, this effectively allows you to look through, but the holes are sufficiently small so as to screen out the wavelengths assiciated with cooking ones taquitos.

First of all, microwave doors have been constructed so that visible light can pass through while containing all microwave radiation within. The spaces between the metal grillwork is wide enough to let the short-length waves of visible light to pass by, but small enough to prevent the longer-wavelength microwaves from escaping.

Secondly, where do we get the information that the full EM spectrum can pass through a Stargate?

because there is no line-of-sight through a wormhole... but non-visible light does get radiated through.
Much like how I can place a wall between two antennae and they will still communicate with each other.

I guess maybe some distorted light might get refracted through and perhaps someday they'll come up with some sensitive instruments to maybe descramble it.

First ENOUGH WITH THE MICROWAVE this is a stargate forum not i microwave one

any way well we know radiowaves go through (there radios, malp)
and we know the gamma radition can come through(from one or two ep where they have raidation comeing though)and they are at diffrent end od the sperctrom

well, let me clear the fog from the tyres...or something like that, clearly, radio waves get through, clearly a host of other electromagnetic wave phenomena can pass through, however, judging from the gate, normal light cant pass through, the best explanation for this is probably saying the gate chooses not to allow this through, just as it can decide when something is just brushing the event horizon, or when something wants to go through....
