I can see the point as well but I don't think it's that hard to scan through the thread to get what you want if it's somewhat on topic still. Also that person should say something. Tell his point, I've seen it happen before. Just say what you think about what the topic is and if someone still has something to say then they will. A lot of times the thread will get back on topic for a while atleast. A lot of times it gets OT because the thread has lost it's usefullness. Like a question or even if it is pointless to begin with.

Also, if theirs a problem that's the mod's job. To say something or do something. But a warning would be nice on said thread. Don't just lock it up at your will.

I don't get the post count thing either. I don't see the count as being that important so I don't post just to get a higher count. I come here to talk to people I have formed friendships with and sometimes spamming is kinda funny and interesting even if it's OT. I just thought it was sort of like I am going to impose my mod rath on all of you now and threads were locked like crazy. What really threw me was my legitiment thread was closed. I was going to start it again but bose started this one. I felt like it was a corruption of power, shutting up someone that has something to say against it. Atleast that's how I felt right off.

Lee - Spamming is annoying and useless, period. If you want to talk aimlessly as you said you think Spamming is often "funny" that is what the chatroom is there for.

These forums are NOT a chatroom

See . . .

this is what we needed, "back in the day". A real hard-a** that wasn't gonna take any you-know-what. No wonder everything looks so neat and inviting.

Please, define "going off topic"... which I believe some mods also call "Spamming".

If a moderator defines "off topic" as any comment that in any way strays from a serious reply, then I COMPLETELY disagree. This online community should mimic the way people naturally converse. If a discussion happens to contain rabbit trails that are loosely related, this should be allowed. If the threads are moderated so tightly as to remove any of these elements, they become completely artificial... and honestly, they get boring. Even in the In-Depth forum, relevant rabbit trails should be allowed. So, if the mods make a thread so tight that a user can't even share thoughts that are loosely related... what's the incentive to participating?

I expect to get bashed by somebody for having this opinion. Such is life.

i have this opinion as well, but many members think that this is spamming. I don't. Here's an example. In the middle of a thread about say "Gate Mechanics" Anubis went off on a tangent talking about some website not related to Stargate. That's Off Topic.

There's a thread in In-Dept which i think is about the Asgard or something like that. However, the main topic of discussion has kind of strayed away to another topic of discussion, but it was still slightly on the topic of the Asgard. The only reason I noticed this difference was that I read post 1 after skimming through the last page. I noticed immediatly that it had went wayward.

Off Topic is like chatting in a thread. Say here's an example.

Indiana: I think the Asgard are cool, they have wee noses
Venus: Oh yeah totally afree, but you notice how do they pee?
Indiana: lol
Puddykat: lol
Venus: Maybe the beam it out?
Indiana: Or maybe they just like all women
Puddykat: What an image
Venus: lol, ur a laugh
Indiana: I can't talk about this no more. I gotta go for a jog
Puddykat: Ooh! A jogger. Nice and fet then
Venus: Very fit

......And the conversation continued. That's using the forums like a Chat room and is kind of a bad thing to do. Earlier on in the new Gaters this type of behaviour was common. In fact the above conversation is similar to one I had with Venus and Puddykat back in November of 2001.

Hope this clears up stuff.

Also, Not to go off-topic, but what does "afree" mean?
