Okay, question. If each world has a different point off orergin (spelling) and they is only 48 (?) sysmbols. how can there be more than 48 worlds?

Well, on the assumption that you won't bite my head off or call me a geek, I'll explain it to you. There are 48 different symbols on each Stargate, and there is one unique symbol on each Stargate which is that Stargate/planet's individual Point of Origin. Naturally each Stargate has a different Point of Origin, and there are more than 48 possibilites for what that unique symbol could be. No doubt there are problems with that tho....

There is 36. One cheveron on each gate is different that the rest, for example the A symbol on the Earth one (the one of the uniforms and in the title). That is unique for each gate therefore there can be an infinate number of gates.

Besides, even if there wasn't a unique symbol (which there is) there could be *whips out calculator* 38955840 different worlds. Or else thats how many worlds our Stargate can dial. Yeah, I'm pretty sure its the second, I have a headache so I can't thank (what?)

so, DHDs ARE NOT interchangable then.

Also in the movie. the stargate on abydos was supposed to have different symbols altother.

please explain this

please, do not open up pandoras box, its a damned can of worms that stargate is! just look at that ooooooh, pwetty colours mmmmmm, nice grey quartzite metal ring with interdimensional portal thingy! and let that be the end of it, dont think too hard, there are more holes than all the ones in space time created by the whole stargate network!

They also only pointed to one symbol, possibly the PoO, maybe. They also didn't know the set of coordinates for earth at that time.
