Unhappy Earth and number of Stargates question...

I just watched the Season 6 opener "Redemption" and have some questions about the episode...

Ok so their original Stargate got blew up....but then they got to loan one from the Russians- Can someone explain this to me? ? Why/How does Russia have a stargate and how many stargates are on Earth?? Wern't they built by the Ancients who put only one on Earth- so why are there 2? Are their anymore on Earth??

Sorry just some questions, any help would be great. thanks.

The Stargate story starts in 1928 when a Stargate is unearthed in the shadow of the Great Pyramids in Giza, Egypt. This Stargate ends up in the hands of the Americans who, in the 1990's got the sucker working.

In the course of the first year of Stargate operation, a disasterous start to one mission accidentally overloads the Stargate located at the SGC just as SG-1 is retreating back through it. The Stargate overloaded and shut down in mid-cycle, and by the nature of the Stargate system, the rest of the cycle was completed at the next-closest Stargate detected within the system. Sam and Jack ended up (unbeknownst to them) in Antarctica, where a second Stargate is hidden beneath a glacier flow.

Sam and Jack get rescued, and the Americans recover this second Stargate and keep it mothballed in Nevada.

At the end of Season 3, another crisis (it's always a crisis) forces SG-1 to "steal" the Stargate and beam it aboard the Asgaard battlecruiser Biliskenr in order to escape that ship as it begins to burn up in Earth's atmosphere. The Russians tracked the alien ship as it fell through the sky and into the ocean, and later they recovered that Stargate, secretly.

The Americans, meanwhile, dust off the Antarctic Stargate (to replace the presumed-destroyed Giza one) and begin using it. The Russians keep their discovery of the Stargate secret until the episode "Watergate", and then come to an agreement with the US not to use the Russian again.

In "Redemption", the Antarctic gate is the one that gets blown up, and the Americans get the "original" Stargate back (the one found at Giza, lost aboard the Asgaard ship, and recovered by the Russians) as part of another deal with the Russians.

No one's sure why there are two Stargates on Earth. But one theory is that the Ancients installed one, and when the Goa'uld conquered Earth they couldn't find it and simply brought the second one over.

Then again, there's another theory that Earth may have been a "very special" world to the Ancients...
