Earlier that day, SG1 had come to this primitive world, not knowing that to the superstitious inhabitants any gate travelers were considered demons. Quickly surrounded by hostile natives, they had been dragged to the town square, where the locals were preparing a large bonfire.
?Infidels, prepare to die!? the chieftain said.
?Hey, wait a minute,? Jack said. ?This isn?t fair, you can?t use us for the main course at a luau just for trespassing.?
?Why not?? the native asked. ?We gotta make a sacrifice to our gods anyway, so we might as well fry some strangers. You don?t expect us to roast someone we know. What do you think we are, barbarians??
?Good point,? Jack said. ?But do you have to fricassee all of us??
?Ok, you convinced me. You may leave, but one of your number must remain behind,? the chieftain said. ?Which one shall it be?
?Well, that?s a no-brainer. Take the new guy,? Jack said casually.
?What?? Jonas squeaked.
?Don?t worry, we?ll come back and save you,? Sam whispered.
Relaxing at hearing her words, Jonas allowed himself to be led towards the pyre. The others headed towards the gate.
As Teal?c dialed home, they could hear a loud scream. As they stepped through the gate Jack said, ?Carter, wasn?t there something we were supposed to do before we left??
Sam shrugged, ?I can?t think of anything, sir.?
?Nor can I,? Teal?c said.
?Oh well, it couldn?t have been too important,? Jack said nonchalantly.
Epilogue:
Three weeks later:
Sam, Jack, Teal?c, and a newly descended Daniel were playing poker at Jack?s house.
As Teal?c shuffled the cards, Sam asked, ?Sir, did you ever remember what it was we were supposed to do on that planet??
?D?oh,? Jack said, smacking himself in the head. ?Carter, we forgot to rescue Jonas.?
?Yeah, you're right sir,? Sam said. "Oh well, at least it wasn't anything important."
?Indeed,? Teal?c said, continuing to shuffle the deck.
Meanwhile, Daniel just sat and smiled.
