Question Why?

I just thought it'd be interesting to find out why people watch the show.

For some it will be the "historical" side to it, for others it'll be the shippiness (looks at puddykat), others will watch it for the battles, and others (looks at the doc) will long to see a half-naked Doc Frasier in it. Others will just like the show in general.

For me it's got to be the exploration, the "what's out there?" attidude to the show, as well as the military side and the comedy (i've got a sarcastic sense of humour, so Jack's comments appeal to me).

What about you lot?

ash

What appealed to me at the start (and I started watching SG-1 right from the get-go on Showtime), was the possibility as to how our modern Earth society and technology would factor into the galactic "game". This is a show about first contacts, and the possibilities that contemporary Earth, primitive as they might be in comparison to the larger powers out there in the galaxy, may bring something new and spectacular to turn the balance of power in the galaxy.

The introduction of the Asgaard, the unseen and overwhelming defenders of Earth, truly upset my anticipations for this storyline. The stalwart adventurers of the SGC and Earth are reduced to a minor factor in the galactic game. Earth becomes a vassal world under the needful protection of far more powerful aliens from all the baddies out there in the universe. As thus, I await the episode where the Protected Planets Treaty gets revoked and/or the Asgaard gets whipped big time.

Talking DEATH i tell you DEATH

i started watching it after loving the movie and because it was a sci-fi show and im adicted to sci-fi

the battles are great and the clash of the races is cool to
i like show were a seemingly unstopably force is stoped cause of a small time player

the exploration, the action, the doc, carter, all of the thing make it one of the greatesed show ever to grace our preasence by being on the TV

Like Death I adore SF in all forms, so I'll give any genre show a chance. Plus I was always a fan of MacGyver, so that was an added bonus. That's what brought me to it.

After that it was kinda like getting seduced. Liked the first episode, liked the 2nd, didn't care much for Emancipation or First Commandment but kept coming back. Then I noticed I was setting my vcr if I wasn't going to be home -- then I was starting to worry about the vcr not taping --- about the time I was starting to stay home to watch it AND tape it, I knew I was an addict.

The things I like most are:

They don't go for easy solutions; sometimes they address interesting moral conflicts, and unlike a certain 3-decades old show whose name I won't mention here, they never do the "it was all a dream" cop-out, or the "if we just talk to aliens they'll change their millenium old culture when we show them the error of our ways".

I like the team dynamics. They function as a team, and are supportive of each other. Sam is a strong woman who nevertheless isn't butch, or domineering. Sam will never be the silly female who twists her ankle running away from the bad guys, she completely takes care of herself, but at the same time she retains her femininity.

The fight scenes are reasonable, not over-the-top like Buffy (which I love, but it's a different type of show), and when someone gets hurt they stay hurt for a while.

Actions have consequences.

And mostly I like it because the stories are fun and interesting and smart.

I enjot all aspects about the show. genres, characters, humour, storyline, action sequences, cinematography, music and what not. it's so brilliant.

He's paying note to my quasi-avatar in my sig, a Terran Marine from Starcraft. The above shot from the Blizzard site is a still shot from an in-game cutscene called "The Battle of the Amerigo", a Aliens-type of movie cutscene where a Terran military team is holed in by hordes of bestial Zerg Hydralisks, like this happy lil' critter:

I like SG cos of ... everything, except that SG-1 live for so long! Not that I *want* them to die, but it's just ... a bit dodgy...
