Question English speaking worlds

I know it's just tv, and to help the story along it is important for us to understand what is going on, but how is it that humans on other planets just happened to develope the same language as the English?

Star Trek explains english speaking aliens away using the universal translators, but that isn't a possibility on SG-1. I know this has probably been asked before, but I'm curious.

Well humans originally came from Earth so it is possible that they thought alike and the language just developed itself from there.
All of the English languages that SG-1 encounter aren't entirely the same. They have different terms for different things.

Handiness, both for the writers and the viewers.

Old thread about it here that might offer more information.

They came from earth thousands of years ago. English wasn't even around then. And English is a mixture of may different languages (it also isn't the only language arund today, why don't some of them speak french etc then?) and, seeing as most planets only have one culture on them, that would indicate that English couldn't have been made up by them.

They're the same. Calling something something else does not a different language make. Is the laungue spoken by Americans the same as the one spoken by English people? Or Austrialians? Yes, yet they call some things differently.

They're not really all speaking English, but they could easily bridge the language barrier by using the reference of a common language between them to "learn" English.

Most, if not all, human worlds seeded out among the stars were done so by the Goa'uld. Logically, this put those people into contact with the Goa'uld language. They are likely to have some record or cultural memory of the language of the Goa'uld, and for five seasons SG-1 had two members who were fluent in that language.

but that doesn't explain why jack and sma were able to communicate with them. And wouldn't certain goa'uld have different languages that they would teach their people? like Yu would speak chinese?
