Do we now expect every episode to be funny?

Has this show turned into a sit-com? After reading the posts on the Sight Unseen episode there where people saying how it wasn't funny or the humour didn't work. Do we now expect every episode to be funny now and when it isn't are we dissapointed?

no i think that what people expect is that if the writers try to turn an episode into a comedy then that it will at least be good, and the jokes funny, not corny.

I think so, this would most likely be the "comedic" episode of this season, or close to it.

The Other Guys was an attempt at humour, and if that's the best they can do they shuld just stick with laconic action. My god Coomes anf Felgar annoyed me to know end with their frigging whining and bitching. Coomes seemed to squeal at everything and shout! They friggin shouted in their trademark high whiny voices when theyre on a Ha'tak. I wish that they had got shot, till the point up in the end when my annoyance was eased by O'Neill telling them to SHUSH!!

I thought "The Other Guys" was one of the best attempts at explaining nerds and their dorky behaviour. I thoroughly enjoyed it - more so because it was a break from the norm and we got to explore what others think of our favourite heros. However, that is just my opinion.

I haven't seen "Sight Unseen" yet, but I'll keep my eyes open.

I think that when people were saying that the humour didn't work in sight unseen, they were referring to Teal'c new found sense of humour in the ep.

I thought they were both funny.......

The Stargate writers seem to do comedy very well. Or maybe it's just easy to make me laugh.......

Let's get one thing straight. The writers aren't incredibly good at comedy writing, I mean, their previous attempts at writing for comedy in other series (check their credits) weren't exactly hugely popular, so let's not expect huge things comic wise.

How was Sight Unseen supposed to be funny? You mean generally, or one part, or what?

And no, I (personally) don't expect every episode to be funny.

I have watched Sight Unseen and didn't get the impression that the writers meant for it to be considered a humerous episode. It was certainly less serious than most others, but they still took themselves seriously. There were amusing moments, but nothing obvious like in Urgo, Window of Op, Wormhole X-Treme, or The Other Guys. It just didn't have the same flavor at all.

And on the humor note, I think the SG1 writers do a fantastic job of writing humor, partly because they know it's not their forte. They don't try to make it a sitcom every week, and they use situational comedy extremely sparingly. By generously spacing out the humorous eps, they don't pressure themselves to deliver. And the one-liners in every episode are always fantastic, though I know the credit for some of those goes to the actors like RDA. But SG1 isn't about the humor, so we appreciate it all the more when it shows up and makes such a good showing. :-)

I think the point was the jokes in Sight Unseen weren't very funny. As opposed to it being the 'funny' episode of the season.
MPH raises an interesting point though. I rewatched In The Line of Duty the other day and thoroughly enjoyed myself as per usual. By the end though, I had noticed that there hadn't been a single humourous line in it. Not even a smart-arse comment from Jack or a raised eyebrow or anything. And yet it happens to be one of my favourite episodes. SG-1's certainly changed over the years, but the comedy isn't (or shouldn't be) the main reason people watch.

What was the humourous part in Sight Unseen?

And about ITLOD not having one liners - wasn't the Tok'ra-not-carrying-ID-cards remotely funny?

There wasn't one...?
Spoiler:
I think the end part with Jack coaxing the paranoid dude out of hiding with his lies....and the Alf joke was supposed to be funny. Oh and there was that bit with T and his dislike for fishing.

I didn't find it funny...? Was it supposed to be? I found it to be more along the lines of a witty retort. As in, I'm a rebel Goa'uld trying to hide from an assassin...why the hell would I carry identification?
