hmm, perhaps, in time, i shall attend a con, but it seems like alot of effort to me, i mean, first you gotta get up, then you gotta shower and shave... THEN youve actually got to put some clothes on, and thats just the start of it...SIGH!!!!!

This DSD sounds like my kind of man, nekid chick paintings all in the name of art, i can see it now.... Amanda, Teryl, would you two be darlings and pose for one of my artsy painting sessions?

gatecon was great fun. there were panels where you got to ask questions to the various actors adn they shared memories, anecdotes etc.
you got to tell brad wright to his face that you want more sam & teal'c for example...or hear how AT felt about all her boyfirends dying...it's a great chance to meet the actors behind the characters.
there is also a cocktail party adn banquet though your interaction iwth the stars can be limited.
and autographs and pictures...costumes in the dealer's room...mainly it's a great chance to meet the folks you talk to on the web as well.
this year i not only got to meet xst for the first time, i met my friend from england, and three from california, my roomie was from louisiana...i met sue corkill and jb...now i konw faces to put with the sigs.
plus i tookt he city tour so i got to see where they shot gamekeeper, maternal instinct, upgrades, bane, 2010, the tollan home world...and more
i went up on grouse mountain, got to see the city....it was a blast.

I wonder if theyd throw in a tour of never never land down in arizona, or maybe the NORAD facility down in cheyenne mountain.
It would be good to go to a con if only to see some gaters!hmm...but i suspect that even if i did goto one for that reason, all the gaters who were gonna go to that event would somhow turn up sick

"Hi, ColJ,

You were at Gatecon and didn't tell me, looked me up or had a beer/tea/coffee with me!!!!! Aw, shucks! I like meeting fellow Gaters. An interesting bunch of people. Did you stay at the Best Western Hotel? Did you visit Vancouver before and after the con. Did you get anything at the auction? Did you get autographs and photos????? "

Yes, I stayed at the Best Western. I got a few autographs but I didn't go to the photo sessions. I took a private bus tour of Vancouver and fell in love with the place. I think I may have sat next to you in the hotel dining room one day. I met Mingo this yr, and several other ppl I''m on an RDA mailing list with. I also met a very nice gater from Australia !

i would love them to have one in colorado springs...there is tons to do in the town, garden of the gods, olympic training center, pro rodeo hall of fame, shopping, shopping, shopping, pikes peak, the royal gorge and the casinos at cripple creek are about an hours drive away each, beautiful scenery, fantastic wild life(lions, bears, mountain sheep, deer)
and there is the real norad though i hear the tour leaves a lot to be desired. you have to sign up months ahead of time, go through security and maybe even a background check, all to be escorted into the lobby for a 20 minute film.

now if they just let us line up outside it and take pictures with 'cheyenne mountain facility' entrance in the back ground i'd be a happy camper

and best of all it's only a 7hour drive for me

Yup, I've been to one con in my life. Back in '94...........
It was to be a Trek con <dodging zat fire> (I was dragged there! I swear!) but it kinda became a scifi free for all. Brent Spiner was the guest and he was a barrel of laughs. I felt bad for him when this delusional woman hounded him about Data getting a romance off the ground. (and yes, she wished she could've been Mrs. Data) I guess that's to be expected if you're the atttending actor.

I guess the funniest part is to watch all those who decide to dress up. Some people do really good jobs and win the eventual look alike contests (the Picard winner at ours was uncanny), but then there are those that basically wrap themselves in tin foil and claim that they're something related to the show when they really look like a baked potato. There was a bit of both at this one.

They sell a lot of stuff and I guess if you're into serious collecting then it's worth checking out. Yeah, ya could end up spending lots of cash for enterance, autographs and other stuff so watch out.

Yes, ArcChaser! You have to bring a lot of dough! Credit cards also helpful and less bulky!

But there is lots to do on a budget, too. I had a blast just watching, taking pictures and chatting with fellow fans in line-ups! Loved that mingo! Shortea was funny! And skydiver is a classy lady! And I met JR Bourne and DS Davis just riding up and down the elevator in the hotel. I'll never wash my right hand again!

I am going to have to go to SG4 on a budget. It's costing enough without and extras what with , travel, accomodation and the price of the tickets!

Oh yeah, dang, i forgot about the exploitative costs, 30 quid for an autograph etc. like at st convos, apparantly 4 or 5 quid to buy one rank pip, 60 quid to enter...mate of mine spent in the hundreds of quids!
